Why do I keep getting popup block warnings?

  • You may experience pop-up block warnings when you try to access an external site which opens in a new window. If you experience a warning, this means that the new window is being blocked by your pop-up blocking settings. Please allow pop-ups if you want to visit the external site.
  • You may also get a pop-up warning if you are using the new detached player which is now included in Bell Aliant Media on Demand.

How do I submit a photo?

  • From any page on the new Photo Gallery you can click on "Upload Photos" to upload and send us your pictures.
  • You will need to download Microsoft Silverlight to be able to submit a photo or view the Photo Gallery slide show.

What are the minimum browser requirements to view BellAliant.net?

  • BellAliant.net is optimized for Internet Explorer (Version 7 & +) and Firefox (Version 2 & 3.1.), however the site should work well on most recent browsers. Audio and video may play with an external player if a browser is not supported.
  • Your computer must meet the system requirements for Windows XP and Windows Vista
  • Windows Media Player 10 or higher
  • Microsoft Silverlight. To enjoy a richer broadband experience and watch video, audio or TV on my PC in Bell Aliant Media On Demand player, you will need to download Silverlight.
  • Although we only support the above mentioned browsers and platforms , any operating system and browser that are officially supported by Microsoft Silverlight should play our audio, video and TV on my PC content.
  • If you are experiencing difficulties accessing or viewing parts of the site and your browser meets or exceeds these requirements, please contact us.

  • Can I upload a photo without downloading Silverlight?

    No, you’ll need to download Silverlight if you want to upload a photo. Silverlight is an inseparable part of the upload process. It compresses your photo in order to reduce the time it takes you to send it to us.

  • Can I watch a video or listen to the audio without downloading Silverlight?

    If you are trying to watch a video or listen to the Internet Radio for the first time in the new player, you will be presented with the option to download Silverlight

    If you choose not to download it, you will still have the option to click on a link to open your default player.

  • Can I watch TV on my PC without downloading Silverlight?

    No, you will need to download Silverlight to be able to watch TV on my PC.

  • Can I view the slideshow in Photo Gallery without downloading Silverlight?

    No, the slideshow only works with Silverlight; however, you can still view all the photos within the Photo Gallery by navigating back and forth between the photos manually.

  • Is the Silverlight download secure?

    Yes, the application is downloaded directly from Microsoft and is also available in Microsoft’s Windows Updates.

  • How long does it take to download Silverlight?

    Approximate download time for High-Speed users is 1 minute; approximate download time for Dial-Up users is 12 minutes.

FAQ for the new player (Media On Demand)

  • What is new in the player?

    The new player combines 4 different player modes - Video, Audio, TV on my PC and a detached player into a single Bell Aliant Media On Demand experience/centre/hub. Users, can navigate from Video to Live Radio or TV on my PC modes by using the 3 tabs at the top left of the player.

    • Playlist: The new playlist functionality will allow you to add videos from our 5 major content categories (channels) - News, Entertainment, Sports, Lifestyle and Music. You can also access different subcategories within the major 5 categories.
    • Liquid Design: The player is built to adjust to the resolution of your screen.
    • Video Search: By using the Search tool within the player you can search for a particular video our Library of videos from all categories.
    • BellAliant.net Recommends: Included in this section is a selection of the latest addition of videos.
    • New detached player: A detached player can be found in the bar below the media window. You can detach the player while in Video, Radio or TV on My PC mode. Since this player can be moved around the screen, resized and placed at your convenience, you will be able to watch and listen while surfing the internet or working on something else.
  • Will I experience warnings about pop-up with the new player?

    No, the new player (Media on Demand) will open in a page not as a pop-up.

    However, if you choose to watch video using the detached player, it could be considered as a pop-up and you may have a warning to allow pop-ups.

  • What is the purpose of the Video Tab?

    When you are on the Video Tab, you are watching, surfing and enjoying video content offered exclusively to our High-Speed customers.

  • What is the purpose of the Radio Tab?

    When you are on the Radio tab, you can listen to your favorite radio stations in Atlantic Canada, as well as the Bell Aliant Internet Radio.

  • Will Audio/Video work with my firewall software?

    Yes, as long as your firewall client allows Internet access to Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer.

    If you are using Bell Aliant’s Security Services, you can check to see if it has access by following these steps:

    • Open Bell Aliant’s Security Services Control Panel
    • Choose Firewall from the left hand side menu.
    • Choose "Internet Access Rules" in the main window
    • Ensure Windows Media Player access is set to "ALLOW"
    • Ensure Internet Explorer access is set to "ALLOW"

  • Video playback is not smooth or experience excess buffering

    For a better video experience and to enjoy video content on BellAliant.net, please ensure that no other application or computers are sharing your Internet connection (downloading, transferring files or online gaming) while you are watching videos.

  • What is the purpose of the TV Tab?

    If you are a TV on my PC subscriber you can watch TV on your PC while surfing the net, check the full guide, look up the schedule of your favorites TV shows. TV on my PC is a software-based solution that enables Bell Aliant High-Speed Internet customers to view live broadcast TV on their PC.

    • How can I subscribe to TV on My PC?

      Live broadcast TV on your PC starts here.

      If you are trying to access TV on my PC and you did not subscribe to this service, you will see a message informing you that you need to be a subscriber in order to use the service.

      If you are a TV on my PC subscriber and you see the message please call our helpdesk and they will help you with the issue.

      All new TV on my PC customers are eligible for one month free of TV on my PC. Regular monthly rate of $9.95/month will begin in the second month.

    • How can I change my time zone from Atlantic Standard Time?

      Go to Help & Support, available for your Operating System, search for Time Zone and follow the instructions.

    • I live in Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland; will I be able to subscribe to the service?

      Currently this service is only available in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

    • What are the minimum system requirements to view the TV on my PC service?

      You have to be a Bell Aliant high speed customer as well as a TV on my PC subscriber

      You must meet the BellAliant.net system requirements.

  • How do I get back to normal size after I change to full screen?

    Hit "Escape" and you will be redirected back to normal size.

  • What’s the difference between video content on www.bellaliant.net between content available within the video player categories?

    The video content on the site is designed to show the most recently selected content by our editors, while the content within the Bell Aliant Media On Demand player will show all available content for a given content category.

  • How can I set a play list?

    Click on the + on the thumbnail to add the video to the playlist. You will see that "added" replaced the + and the video is added to your playlist.

    To remove a video from the playlist, you need to click on the "-"

  • Can I add videos from different categories to the playlist?

    Yes. You can select videos from any category within the video tab. You can also add videos from many categories to the playlist at the same time.
